Pico cells are used within the PMN to provide fast, low-cost mobile phone coverage and capacity where it is needed. The wireless access points or Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) connect to and are powered by the LAN. In the case of small offices, they can function as a wireless LAN and the connection to the enterprise network made over the VPN.
Guardband spectrum creates innovative opportunities for private mobile solutions based on tried and tested mobile technology
Each private mobile network is made up of one or more GSM cells depending on the number of users, coverage area and call volumes required. A single Base Transceiver Station (BTS) access point supports seven concurrent calls and they can be clustered to support up to 31 concurrent calls. Multiple cells can be created, expanding the coverage to any required area.
The pico cells used as Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) in the PMN solution include:
A proven, end-to-end solution carrying billions of minutes of traffic every year, in dozens of networks around the world.
GSM cellular base stations combine standard, high-performance processors with advanced software radio technology to deliver low-cost, power efficient radio access networks to serve rural areas and other special applications.
As an operator of its own GSM network, HSL is involved in the development of GSM mobile network infrastructure and mobile network services.
